The Shannon Door Pub is my favorite eating establishment near our condo. It is a local pub located in Jackson, right near the Wentworth Golf Course. The menu is pretty good and the staff is wonderful. At times they have a face painter in the stairway for kids and features a great pumpkin person display during the fall. During the evenings and some afternoons, a bad and music will be playing as well. The pizza's are good options for anyone as they are personal size yet filling. The gluten free pizza is also quite good for gluten free pizza, which generally tastes like paper. I would recommend this place to anyone. In terms of my own ratings, I would rate it a 5 out of 5.
In regards to Yelp, 28 reviews put it close to a 4 out of 5. Click here for the full reviews list.
Black Mountain is located about 15 minutes past Storyland into Jackson, NH. This mountain is an below average skill level so for first time skiers, this might be an option for you. I found the staff inviting and the restaurant located at the base of the mountain is fantastic and highly recommended. There is also plenty to do during the summer with this mountain which includes mountain biking and hiking. Overall, a good mountain. Click here for the On the Snow Review.
The Red Parka is located right near the crossroads of 302 and 16 in Glen, down the street from Storyland and about a 3-5 minute drive to our condo at the Seasons. We have been to this place a few times with the family and both times were enjoyable. They have a large menu and "toys" for crying kids - with us, one of our kids was not in a particular good mood and the staff gave them something to play with while we waited for the food. The price of the food is higher than the other places nearby but the whole package of food and service makes it a good option. I had the steak tips and the kids had chicken fingers (what kids does not like chicken fingers). Overall, I would rate this place highly and recommend it to our guests.
As for Yelp, the average rating is 3.75 stars out of 5 which is not that great if you think about it. There are plenty of reviews so if you are looking for insight for this place from someone other than I, then the Yelp site should help. Click here for the full yelp page.
Over the past few weeks we have been posting reviews of the mountains near the condo from "on the snow." In addition to the continued running of this series, we will also be introducing another feature titled Yelp Reviews. This will be similar to the On the Snow series in that it will feature our experience with the place. The difference is we are using Yelp for the reviews versus on the snow which does not do restaurant reviews. We will attempt to start with Bartlett and move outward towards North Conway, Glen and Jackson.
Every region has a true family type ski mountain and for our area that belongs to Cranmore. Located right outside the Conway Village (about a 15 minute drive from our condo), this mountain features good terrain and great post apres ski. The skiing is good though the trails are not particularly tough. Reviews of the place from last winter from our guests rated the mountain about a 3 out of 5, mostly due to the very long lines that plagued the mountain on the weekends. Also the cost for ski lessons is rather steep compared to Attitash, Wildcat, et all. I skiied this mountain once last winter and if I have my druthers, I would probably venture to the others first. That is my preference though and judging from the large crowds that venture to Cranmore when it is open, it is probably better than I am giving it credit for.

So marching on to our next mountain: Bretton Woods. Bretton Woods is a large mountain with many different options. I am not a glades skiier but in speaking with a guest who stayed with us last year and visited Bretton Woods during their stay, I heard that the glades were awesome and well worth the challenge. Overall, this mountain has it all from terrain parks, the aforementioned glades to plenty of diamond skiing - it also has plenty of easier runs and from what I have heard a good ski school. Admittedly, I have not been to Bretton much since we have not owned the condo for that long but I plan on getting there this winter for a few good runs. Perhaps I will tie it in as I come back from Santa's village with the kids (assuming they are up and running in December).
From our condo, Bretton Woods is about a 25-30 minute ride up 302. There is not much else there besides the mountain and the apres ski on the mountain. In terms of feedback from guests who have stayed with us, Bretton is the best of the bunch...mostly because of the variety of terrain.

Well, finally I am in front of a computer to give you the latest installment of my reviews of the ski mountains in the valley, near our condo at the Seasons. Last installment, which occurred a while ago in late October, covered Attitash which is the closest of the mountain near our condo. Now we venture to Wildcat Mountain, located in Jackson, NH, about 20 minutes away. Wildcat is a much tougher mountain than its sister Attitash. It has less trails versus the Attitash/Bear Peak combo but the trails are longer and the views are just spectacular. As I have tweeted numerous times, it is my favorite mountain in the area as it normally opens first in the valley and usually closes last (late April this year). The trails are strong and last year well groomed. The blues were tougher in some cases than the diamonds at Cranmore & Attitash. The Apres ski is not too bad either.
Hopefully I can get my iphone issues with weebly fixed so I can post the next review sooner than later. Here is the link to the One the Snow review of Wildcat.
