It has been a few months since we last posted a running route near our place in the mountains so let's continue with our "routes" series. Today we cover the "Covered Bridge Road" route. The total distance for this run is 4.3 miles and starts out at our condo at the Seasons. The beginning and the end are basically the same for all of our routes for that matter. The best part of this path I find is the somewhat less amount of time spent on 302 which is both cold from the wind blowing up and down there road as well as somewhat unnerving as the traffic is going by in excess of 60mph.
As the map shows, you run about a half mile once outside the Seasons and take a left onto Covered Bridge Road (right after the covered bridge gift shop). When I ran this I basically stayed off the road and ran on the dirt till I had to cross over the Saco and at that point I physically was on the pavement.
Once on the covered road, then the roller coaster begins. The middle path has one heck of a climb - on a positive note, the route back down is not so steep so be stess on the knees is ok. Once completing the covered ridge road and returning to 302, cross over and run on the dirt. After you cross over the Saco, then you will eventually cut down to West Sid Road through the woods. There is nothing marked - you just have to be carefull.
As for running the path, here are the details
Total Route: 4.32
Total Elevation High Low of 302: 325 / 825 ft
Tip: run the dirt on the side of 302 for better safety and less stress on the knees.
