The other day as I was searching for some good trails to run up in Bartlett this upcoming weekend, I came across a site – “Running in the USA.” Now Running in the USA is an pretty cool site for the running junkies out there who are just looking to run a race each weekend (or gulp, each day). For NH, I pulled up the following list of races that are occurring from October 9th to October 18th – that would be 14 races! Now this is not an advertisement for this site, but if you are truly looking for a race to run, this site has the details!
So what does this have to do with the Valley or our condo? Well, if you happen to look at line 2, the Attitash Race Team Hills and Hops Trail run is taking place. Now, I have not actually heard of this event (I thought I had heard of most things occurring in the valley) though if I had actually read the details of the Octoberfest occurring there during the same weekend, I would have read about this race! Octoberfest is taking place on October 11th and October 12th at the mountain (Located a mile from our condo) and while I have not attended this in the past, I have heard it is a pretty cool event. There is a cover charge to get in of $10 and they are offering season pass discounts for the upcoming ski season – so if you are planning on skiing in the area this winter, this might be an option!
Aside from this race, as I scanned through the lot of races in NH (there is just a tremendous number), it does not look like there is another one coming to this area till 2015. So with that said, if you are just looking for a running trail, like me, one should venture to the “white Mountain Milers” site. They are a running club that “runs the valley” so they do have insights on what the best trails to run are as they “run the valley.” What they feature on their site, which does not show up on “Running in the USA” is the Purity Spring Resort Thanksgiving 5k. Purity spring is about 35 minutes south from our place but in looking at the pictures, it looks like an interesting event. It is an early event and given its short distance, you would probably be done before breakfast.
Lastly, just on the plain trails front, these Milers feature the “Moat Mountain Trail” which is a 10 mile run from Diana’s baths, which is located about 5 minutes from our condo. I have not done this (as I just found out about this trail) but I am entertaining the thought of giving it a shot as it features some pretty cool views from some points of the run. We shall see! In addition to this, one path I am thinking of running is through the fields of Attitash and then back down 302 to the Seasons. While not the greatest run at 6am in the morning, it is a good 5 mile run and if the weather behaves, should be a good morning jaunt. I found this path by going to runningmap.com.
Going forward, I will try to update the blog with some other running ideas for those looking for something to do while not venturing to Attitash, Cranmore, Storyland, etc.
